We asked Educators Rising students how their school involves students in important decisions and what they think would be the best way for schools to include students’ ideas when making decisions.
Online surveys
My school does surveys on Google Forms and sends them to all students’ emails. Most students check their email because that’s where they receive grades and news from the school. Technology is a great way to reach out to students, and an online form is easy to access! You’re able to fill it out on a computer, tablet, and even a phone.

It is very important for schools to ask opinions from students about school decisions. There are more students than staff, and their opinion should be validated. Everybody’s opinion is important and needs to be heard, and using technology is the best way to communicate!

Suggestion boxes
While my school voices that every student’s opinion is valued, they don’t really give us an opportunity to voice our opinions on certain things that are important to us. When students get to make decisions about their learning, it can be powerfully motivating.

I think that the best way to include student ideas is by making suggestion boxes to place around schools that could be checked every week. That way, students will have a place to voice their concerns, and they can even do so anonymously if needed.

Ask everyone
My school district does many things to give students the opportunity to give feedback and share their opinions about important decisions. We may receive surveys or be asked personally about the important matter.

Katelen BreAnn Bennett
The best way for schools to include students is by making it so all students are able to share their thoughts. This could be through a Google platform and sent out by email or any other platform that all students can access.

QR codes
At my university, it is their top priority to hear the input of students. My campus uses QR codes that are posted on the internet and around campus. These QR codes take us to Google Forms and surveys. In addition, my campus will send us monthly emails with questions, which allows students to voice their opinion and concerns.

I feel that it is easiest for students to give feedback through surveys since students can be anonymous and voice their opinions without a filter.
